PAVALAM 2026 Celebrates Talent, Creativity and Team Spirit

Report on PAVALAM Inter-Departmental Competition 2026

Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, organized PAVALAM 2026 – Inter-Departmental Competition on 17 and 18 August 2026 from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on the college campus. Based on the theme “OCCASION,” the two-day event provided a vibrant platform for students from different departments to showcase their creativity, artistic abilities and individual talents.

Mr. P.S.P.K.J. Somu graced the programme as the Chief Guest. Dr. T. Sudha, Cultural Coordinator and Event Coordinator, organized and coordinated the competitions with the support of the organizing team.

The event brought together students from different academic disciplines and encouraged them to interact, compete and celebrate their talents beyond the classroom. Moreover, PAVALAM promoted teamwork, confidence, leadership and a strong sense of belonging to the institution.

Theme of PAVALAM 2026

The theme for PAVALAM 2026 was “OCCASION.”

The theme provided students with broad scope to express their creativity through dance, music, fashion, art and other forms of cultural expression. As a result, participants explored different interpretations of the theme and presented their ideas with enthusiasm and originality.

The name PAVALAM symbolises the hidden talents and inner strengths of students. Furthermore, it reflects the idea that every department contributes its unique abilities to the identity and success of Kamaraj Women’s College.

Objectives of the Competition

PAVALAM 2026 focused on the following objectives:

  • Foster healthy competition and teamwork
  • Encourage creativity and artistic expression
  • Develop confidence and communication skills
  • Promote critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Build leadership and organizational skills
  • Encourage participation beyond academics

Inter-Departmental Participation

Students from various departments enthusiastically participated in the two-day competition.

PAVALAM created opportunities for participants to interact with students from other disciplines, exchange ideas and appreciate diverse talents. In addition, the competitive environment encouraged them to improve their skills while respecting the abilities and achievements of others.

The programme included both on-stage and off-stage competitions, allowing students with different interests and talents to participate.

On-Stage Events

The on-stage competitions brought energy, colour and excitement to PAVALAM 2026.

The events included:

  • Solo Classical Dance
  • Retro Property Round
  • Solo Fusion Dance
  • Group Singing
  • Fashion Walk

The Solo Classical Dance provided participants with an opportunity to showcase traditional dance forms, expressions and performance skills.

Meanwhile, the Solo Fusion Dance encouraged students to creatively combine different dance styles. The Group Singing competition highlighted coordination, musical talent and teamwork.

In addition, the Retro Property Round encouraged creative presentation based on the theme. The Fashion Walk added further excitement as students displayed confidence, creativity and presentation skills.

Off-Stage Events

Alongside the stage performances, several creative competitions took place across the campus.

The off-stage events included:

  • Face Painting
  • Bridal Makeup
  • Vegetable Carving
  • Mehendi
  • Rice Flour Paste Kolam

These competitions allowed students to demonstrate creativity, patience, precision and artistic skills.

For instance, Face Painting encouraged visual creativity, while Bridal Makeup tested aesthetic sense and presentation. Similarly, Vegetable Carving challenged participants to transform simple materials into creative designs.

Furthermore, the Mehendi and Rice Flour Paste Kolam competitions celebrated traditional artistic practices while giving students the freedom to present innovative designs.

Creativity, Culture and Team Spirit

Throughout the two days, students displayed enthusiasm and competitive spirit in every event.

The combination of traditional, contemporary and creative competitions helped participants explore different forms of artistic expression. At the same time, the programme encouraged mutual respect and appreciation among students from different departments.

Moreover, participation helped students strengthen their confidence, communication, teamwork and ability to perform under competitive conditions.

Evaluation and Recognition of Winners

Judges evaluated all the on-stage and off-stage competitions and assessed the participants according to the requirements of each event.

Role of the Organising Team

Dr. T. Sudha, Cultural Coordinator and Event Coordinator, coordinated PAVALAM 2026 with the support of the organizing team.

The team coordinated the different competitions, guided the participants and ensured the smooth conduct of the two-day programme. Furthermore, careful coordination helped maintain fairness and discipline throughout the events.

Their collective efforts contributed significantly to the successful completion of all the competitions.
