Introduction

The Nature Club of Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, organized a powerful Guest Lecture on Plants: Nature’s Gift on 16th September 2025. The programme was conducted at the college campus between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Its main goal was to create awareness among students about the importance of plants in sustaining life. The session also highlighted their ecological value, their role in biodiversity, and their practical applications in food, health, and the environment.

Welcome Address

The event began with a cordial welcome by Ms. V. Priyadharshini, a student of II B.Sc. Microbiology. She greeted the dignitaries, the staff members, and the participants with warmth. Moreover, she introduced the guest speaker in an engaging manner and set a friendly tone for the programme. Her words encouraged students to stay attentive and gain as much knowledge as possible from the session.

About the Session

The guest lecture delivered by Dr. P. Benjamin Jeya Rathna Kumar was both inspiring and educational. He spoke on the topic Plants: Nature’s Gift and explained in detail how plants play an essential role in everyday life.

He focused on several key areas:

  • The vital role of plants in maintaining ecological balance
  • Their medicinal and nutritional significance
  • The importance of biodiversity conservation
  • Their contribution to human survival through oxygen, food, and natural compounds

After the guest lecture, Dr. M. Vanmathi, Principal of Kamaraj Women’s College, addressed the gathering. She appreciated the efforts of the Nature Club for organizing such a knowledge-building event. A total of 108 students actively took part in the programme. Most participants were second-year students from various departments, including active members of the Nature Club. The student coordinators were: – R. Kaviyasri (I B.Com B/F) – P. Santhana Selvi (II MB) – K. Mukil Chithra (II MB)

Their teamwork and coordination ensured the smooth execution of the lecture.
