Crochet Workshop 2026: Inspiring Hands-On Craft Studio

Crochet Workshop titled “The Craft Studio: Intro to Crochet” was organised by the Department of Fashion Technology, Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, on 23 September 2026. The one-day hands-on workshop was conducted from 11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the Fashion Technology Department Lab / Seminar Hall.

The programme introduced students to the fundamental tools, materials and techniques of crochet through demonstration and practical training. Dr. M. Vanmathi served as the Resource Person and guided the participants through essential crochet techniques, including yarn selection, hook handling, stitch tension and foundational crochet stitches.

Crochet Workshop – The Craft Studio: Intro to Crochet

The workshop was designed to provide students with practical exposure to one of the versatile techniques used in textile craft and fashion applications.

Crochet combines creativity with technical precision. Therefore, the programme focused not only on introducing the basic stitches but also on helping students understand the importance of yarn, hook handling, tension and structural consistency.

The hands-on format enabled participants to observe each technique and immediately practise it under guidance.

Welcome and Commencement of the Workshop

The programme commenced at 11.00 a.m. with the Welcome Address.

Following the welcome, the keynote and practical sessions began with an introduction to crochet and the basic requirements for developing crochet structures.

The session created a learning environment in which students could understand the technique step by step before moving into hands-on practice.

Practical Training by Dr. M. Vanmathi

Dr. M. Vanmathi, Resource Person, conducted the keynote session and practical workshop.

She introduced the participants to the essential tools and techniques required for crochet and demonstrated how different factors influence the quality and appearance of the finished work.

The practical approach enabled students to follow each stage closely and practise the techniques during the session.
