Tobacco Awareness Program Highlights the Dangers of Smoking

Report on Tobacco Awareness Program

The National Service Scheme (NSS), in association with the Department of Business Administration (BBA), Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, organized a Tobacco Awareness Program on 17 July 2026 from 12.00 p.m. to 12.45 p.m. at the KWC Projector Hall. The programme was conducted to educate students about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to encourage a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle.

The Tobacco Awareness Program aimed to create awareness about the physical, mental, and social consequences of tobacco use. Moreover, the programme motivated students to become ambassadors of health by spreading awareness within their families and communities.

Objectives of the Programme

The programme was organized to promote awareness about the dangers of tobacco and encourage healthy living among students.

Inaugural Session

The programme commenced with a warm welcome delivered by the student coordinator, who greeted the dignitaries, faculty members, and students.

The event was presided over by Dr. M. Vanmathi, Principal, and conducted under the guidance of Dr. R. Jeyalakshmi, NSS Programme Officer and Head, Department of Business Administration.

The inaugural session emphasized the importance of creating awareness among young people about the dangers of tobacco and the need to adopt healthy lifestyle practices.

Awareness Session by the Resource Person

The Resource Person, Mrs. S. Murugalakshmi, M.A., M.Phil., N.E.T., Assistant Professor, Kamaraj Women’s College, delivered an informative and thought-provoking awareness lecture.

During her presentation, she explained:

  • Harmful effects of tobacco on physical health
  • Impact of tobacco on mental well-being
  • Diseases caused by tobacco consumption
  • Dangers of passive smoking
  • Importance of avoiding tobacco products
