Introduction to Onam Celebrations 2025

The Department of Commerce and Banking & Finance at Kamaraj Women’s College hosted a vibrant and memorable Onam Celebrations 2025 on 4th September. The event began at 1:00 PM in the KWC Seminar Hall and was organized by the Surabhi Association.

The celebration was marked by unity, cultural exchange, and joy. Faculty, staff, and students joined hands to create a memorable occasion. The highlight of the event was the rich blend of tradition, cultural expression, and togetherness that reflected the essence of Onam.

Inauguration with Traditional Warmth

The celebration began with beautifully decorated kolams across the campus. Students from first, second, and third years of both B.Com (General) and B.Com (Banking & Finance) showcased their creativity by designing intricate rangolis. This colorful display symbolized prosperity and festive joy.

The program started with a soulful prayer song performed by Pararasi and Pavithra from III B&F, along with Monisha from I Banking and Finance. Their melodious voices filled the hall with serenity.

Athi from III B.Com (Banking & Finance) then delivered the welcome address. She highlighted the cultural significance of Onam and reminded the audience of the importance of preserving traditions. Her words created an atmosphere of warmth and inclusiveness, preparing everyone for the festive events ahead.

Inaugural Address by the Head of Department

The formal gathering was graced by Dr. P. Aruna Devi, Head and Assistant Professor of the Department of Commerce. In her inspiring inaugural address, she emphasized the values of unity, equality, and generosity embedded in the legend of King Mahabali.

Dr. Aruna Devi praised the Surabhi Association and all students for their enthusiasm and teamwork. She encouraged them to carry forward the spirit of Onam by embracing inclusiveness and celebrating diversity within the campus.

Cultural Extravaganza

The cultural programs of the Onam Celebrations 2025 captivated the audience with talent, creativity, and tradition.

Dance Performance: Sarumathi from II B.Com (General) and her team performed a graceful Onam dance. Their synchronized steps and traditional expressions brought the spirit of Kerala’s culture alive on stage.

Fashion Walk: One of the most awaited events was the Fashion Walk. Students showcased Kerala’s traditional attire, including the elegant kasavu sarees. Participants such as Lakshimpriya, Shamili Manogari, Anglin Jeba, Nendatha, and Rangitha received loud applause for their poise and confidence.

Onam Speech: Madhu Mitha from I Banking and Finance delivered a thoughtful speech on the legend of King Mahabali. She explained how Onam conveys the values of equality, hope, and happiness. Her address reminded everyone of the festival’s deeper meaning.

Musical Ensemble: The athachamayam performance energized the hall with rhythmic beats. Students actively participated in the musical celebration, creating an atmosphere of cheer and enthusiasm.

Capturing the Moments

The celebration was carefully documented by the media team. Divya and Jasmine from I B.Com (General) captured photos and videos of the event. Later, Kaviya Sri from I B.Com (General) edited and compiled the highlights into a creative social media video. This ensured the joyful memories of Onam could be shared widely.

Vote of Thanks

As the event drew to a close, Manju from II B.Com (General) delivered the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to the management, Principal, Head of Department, Surabhi Association, and faculty members for their continuous support. She also thanked the student community for their wholehearted participation and vibrant energy that made the event a success.
