Report on Soft Skills Training Program on Interview Readiness

The Department of Commerce and Banking & Finance, Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, in collaboration with SWAYAM-NPTEL and IIT Madras, successfully organized a Soft Skills Training Program on Interview Readiness in online mode from 03 July 2026 to 09 July 2026 between 10.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.. The programme aimed to enhance students’ employability by developing essential professional skills required for placement and career success. A total of 50 students actively participated in the training programme.

The Interview Readiness Training focused on communication, writing, resume preparation, presentation, networking, and interview skills. Moreover, the programme combined theoretical learning with practical assignments, enabling students to build confidence for future recruitment processes.

Objectives of the Interview Readiness Training

The programme was organized to prepare students for campus recruitment and professional careers through structured soft skills training.

Therefore, the programme equipped students with practical skills that are highly valued in today’s competitive job market.

Oral Communication Skills Session

The programme commenced with an engaging session on Oral Communication Skills. Students learned the importance of effective communication in academic and professional environments.

The session covered:

  • Fundamentals of communication
  • Group Discussion techniques
  • Public Speaking skills
  • Presentation techniques
  • Effective Listening skills

Furthermore, participants completed a practical activity by recording a two-minute self-introduction audio clip. This exercise helped students improve their confidence, fluency, and communication effectiveness.

Writing Skills for Professional Communication

The next session focused on Writing Skills, with special emphasis on workplace communication.

Students received training in:

  • Business communication
  • Email writing
  • Email etiquette
  • Professional writing techniques

As part of the learning activity, participants prepared a 300-word write-up describing their college life. Consequently, students improved their writing style, organization of ideas, and professional communication skills.

Resume Building Workshop

The Resume Building session introduced students to the essential elements of creating an effective professional resume.

The resource materials covered:

  • Structure of a professional resume
  • Different types of resumes
  • Difference between a Resume and a Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Selecting the appropriate resume format
  • Resume writing dos and don’ts

Moreover, students prepared their own resumes using sample formats, enabling them to apply the concepts practically.

Interview Skills and Professional Presentation

Another important session focused on Interview Skills and the importance of presenting oneself professionally.

The session emphasized:

  • Positive body language
  • Professional grooming
  • Interview etiquette
  • Confidence building
  • Effective interview handling techniques

Additionally, students submitted a 300-word assignment explaining the importance of body language in the workplace along with the dos and don’ts of professional behaviour.

Professional Networking and Job Search

The programme also included an informative session on Social Networking for Job Search.

Students gained knowledge about:

  • Professional networking platforms
  • Creating a professional online profile
  • Virtual networking opportunities
  • Online job portals
  • Career search strategies

Furthermore, participants prepared a two-page report explaining various online job portals and their importance for different categories of job seekers. This activity strengthened students’ awareness of modern recruitment practices.

Doubt Clearing Session

The training programme concluded with a comprehensive Doubt Clearing Session. Students clarified their queries regarding assignments, resume preparation, interview techniques, and placement processes.

The interactive discussion enabled participants to gain greater confidence in applying the concepts learned throughout the programme.

The Interview Readiness Training successfully enhanced students’ professional competencies and employability skills.

The Soft Skills Training Program on Interview Readiness proved to be highly beneficial for students. The programme successfully strengthened their communication skills, resume writing abilities, interview confidence, professional networking knowledge, and overall employability.

Overall, the collaboration between Kamaraj Women’s College, SWAYAM-NPTEL, and IIT Madras provided students with valuable industry-oriented training that will support their academic growth and future professional success.
