Girl Child Empowerment Promotes a Drug-Free Future at KWC

Report on International Day of the Girl Child Awareness Programme – Empower Girls, End Drugs

The Anti-Drug Club of Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, organized a Girl Child Empowerment awareness programme titled “Empower Girls, End Drugs” on 9 October 2026 at 11.30 a.m. in the KWC Seminar Hall. The programme marked the upcoming International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on 11 October.

The initiative aimed to create awareness about girls’ education, safety, rights and equal opportunities while highlighting the importance of preventing drug abuse. Moreover, the programme encouraged students to develop self-confidence, make informed decisions and resist harmful influences.

Objectives of the Programme

The programme focused on the following objectives:

  • Promote girl child empowerment through education and awareness
  • Highlight the importance of girls’ rights, safety and dignity
  • Create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse
  • Encourage students to resist peer pressure and substance abuse
  • Develop self-confidence and responsible decision-making skills
  • Promote a safe, healthy and drug-free society

Student Presentations and Awareness Activities

Students actively participated in the programme through PowerPoint presentations and poster presentations.

The presentations highlighted the importance of girl child empowerment, education, equal opportunities and protection from harmful influences. Students also explained the harmful effects of drug abuse and discussed preventive measures.

Furthermore, the presentations emphasized the role of young women in promoting awareness and building a drug-free society.

The activities encouraged students to express their ideas creatively. In addition, they provided opportunities to improve communication, presentation and critical thinking skills.

Promoting Girl Child Empowerment

The programme emphasized that education, safety, dignity and equal opportunities are essential for the development and well-being of girls.

Students explored the importance of self-confidence and the ability to make responsible decisions. Moreover, the discussions highlighted the need to create a supportive environment where girls can pursue their education and aspirations without discrimination or harmful influences.

The initiative reinforced the message that empowering girls contributes to stronger families, communities and society.

Awareness on Drug Abuse Prevention

Another important aspect of the programme was creating awareness about drug abuse and its harmful effects.

Students highlighted the importance of avoiding substance abuse, recognizing peer pressure and making healthy choices.

Furthermore, the programme encouraged participants to understand their responsibility in spreading awareness among their peers.

By connecting girl child empowerment with drug prevention, the initiative promoted the importance of protecting young people and supporting their well-being.

Programme Coordination

The programme took place under the guidance of Dr. M. Vanmathi, Principal, and Mr. S. Ramachandran, Correspondent.

Mrs. M. Kiruthika @ Vijaya, Head of the Committee, coordinated the programme with the support of student coordinators I. Preethi and L. Nageshwari of III B.F.

Their coordination contributed to the smooth conduct of the awareness activities.

The Girl Child Empowerment programme provided students with opportunities to:

Conclusion

The Girl Child Empowerment awareness programme organized by the Anti-Drug Club of Kamaraj Women’s College successfully combined the messages of girls’ rights, education, safety and drug prevention.

Through PowerPoint presentations and posters, students shared meaningful ideas about empowering girls and protecting young people from substance abuse.

Furthermore, the programme encouraged students to become responsible citizens and active supporters of a safe, healthy and inclusive society.

The initiative concluded with the message:
