Report on Voters Awareness Programme and Competitions
The NSS Unit No. 248 of Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, in association with the Thoothukudi District Collectorate, jointly organized a Voters Awareness Programme and Competitions on 18 March 2026 at 10.30 a.m. on the college premises. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and the public about the importance of voting, democratic participation, and electoral responsibility.
Voting plays a vital role in a democratic nation. Therefore, awareness programmes like this are essential for guiding young citizens. They help students understand that voting is not only a right, but also a serious responsibility. In this context, the programme served as a timely and meaningful initiative for developing civic awareness among youth.
Moreover, the event combined awareness with student participation. It included speeches by dignitaries, thought-provoking competitions, and interaction with government officials. As a result, the programme became informative, engaging, and socially relevant.
Purpose of the Voters Awareness Programme
The main purpose of the Voters Awareness Programme was to educate students about the value of voting in a democracy. At the same time, it aimed to strengthen awareness about civic duty, public participation, and responsible decision-making during elections.

Welcome Address and Opening of the Programme
The programme began with a warm welcome address by Mrs. M. Vanmathi, Principal of Kamaraj Women’s College. She welcomed the dignitaries, officials, staff members, and students. She also highlighted the need for voter awareness among youth.
Furthermore, she emphasized that college students must develop political awareness, social responsibility, and democratic values. Her address set a meaningful tone for the event and prepared the audience for the important discussions that followed.
Address by the District Collector
The Chief Guest, Mr. K. Elambahavath, I.A.S., District Collector, Thoothukudi, addressed the gathering and delivered an insightful speech on the necessity of voting. He explained that voting is not just a constitutional right. More importantly, it is a powerful instrument through which citizens influence the future of the country.
He also spoke about the history of elections in India and explained how democratic participation has shaped national progress. In addition, he urged the students to understand the value of each vote and to exercise their franchise with awareness and responsibility.

Special Address on Women and Voting Rights
Mr. T. Bhuvneswar Ram, I.A.S. also addressed the students during the programme. He spoke about the history of women’s participation in voting and highlighted the milestones achieved in women’s electoral rights.
Moreover, he explained how women have played an important role in strengthening democracy through active electoral participation. His speech reminded the students that the right to vote was gained through long social progress and must be used with care and awareness.

Competitions Conducted as Part of the Programme
To make the awareness programme more engaging, several competitions were conducted for the students. These events helped them express their ideas creatively while spreading awareness about voting and civic responsibility.
The Rangoli Competition was organized by the Collectorate. A total of 5 teams of students and 5 teams from Anganwadi staff participated with enthusiasm. Among them, 3 teams from the college secured the top positions. The overall trophy was awarded to the students’ team by the District Collector. This achievement brought pride to the institution and reflected the students’ creativity and social awareness.
In addition, a Mime Competition was performed by the students. Through silent performance and expression, they conveyed strong social messages about voting awareness and civic duty. This event made the message more powerful and memorable.
A Poster Making Competition was also conducted. In this event, students displayed their creativity by illustrating themes related to voting rights, democracy, and voter participation. Their posters reflected both artistic talent and thoughtful understanding of the topic.

In the same way, the support of the college management, officials, faculty members, and students contributed to the overall success of the programme. This collective involvement made the event more effective and memorable.
Vote of Thanks and Conclusion
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Premalatha from the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment. She expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, and organizers for their support and contribution.
