Programme to Create and Promote Millets among Students
Kamaraj Women’s College, the Department of Commerce, and NSS Unit No. 248 organized a program on “Creating Awareness and Promoting Millets among Students” on August 17th 2023. Millets are a group of cereal grains that belong to the Poaceae family, commonly known as the grass family. With the aim of creating awareness and increasing production and consumption of millets, the United Nations, at the behest of the Government of India, declared 2023 the International Year of Millets. Millets are ragi, varagu, thinai, kuthiraivali, samai, kambu, and cholam. Jesu Maria Selvammal, Jensi Calara, Kayathri Karthiga, Cathrina Jenifer, Karthigai Priya, Raja Lakshmi, and Peraasi were the commerce students who explained millets names, uses, how to use them, and their health benefits. Subasri from I Bcom, Durga from I Bcom Banking and Finance, Kalpana from II Bcom, Vasihnavi from II Bcom Banking and Finance, and Srinithi from III Bcom organized the program. Promotion of millets: KWC students and staff eat millets as lunch. 133 students participated and benefited from the program.
