Report on “Books, My Friend” Book Review Programme
The Bharathiyar Forum and Readers’ Circle of the Department of Tamil, Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi, organised a Book Review Programme titled “Books, My Friend” on 27 August 2026. The programme aimed to encourage students to develop regular reading habits, explore meaningful books and express their ideas with confidence.
Moreover, the programme provided an opportunity for students to share their thoughts about inspiring national leaders and understand how books can broaden their knowledge and perspectives.
Objectives of the Programme
The Book Review Programme focused on the following objectives:
- Encourage students to develop a regular reading habit
- Promote interest in books beyond academic textbooks
- Improve comprehension and critical thinking skills
- Develop students’ ability to express their ideas clearly
- Introduce students to the benefits of the Readers’ Circle
- Encourage students to learn from the lives of inspiring national leaders

Thus, the programme combined reading, reflection and student interaction in an engaging academic environment.
Inaugural Session
The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, creating a pleasant and respectful atmosphere.
Dr. M. Vanmathi, Principal, Kamaraj Women’s College, presided over the programme and formally inaugurated the event. During her address, she explained the importance and benefits of the Readers’ Circle and encouraged students to make reading an important part of their everyday lives.
Furthermore, she highlighted how regular reading can expand knowledge, strengthen language skills and help students develop broader perspectives.
Books as Friends for Life
The theme “Books, My Friend” highlighted the valuable role that books can play throughout a person’s life.
The programme encouraged students to view books not merely as sources of academic information but also as companions that offer knowledge, inspiration, ideas and guidance.
In addition, students learned that reading different types of books can improve vocabulary, communication and imagination. Therefore, the programme motivated them to explore books based on their interests and continue reading beyond the classroom.

Ms. Madhumitha compered the programme and coordinated the proceedings effectively. Meanwhile, Ms. Jeevitha delivered the welcome address and extended a warm welcome to the gathering.
At the conclusion of the programme, Ms. Aishwarya proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, organisers and students for their support and participation.
