Fashion Portfolio Workshop 2025 – Dept of Fashion Technology Empowers Students

Kamaraj Women’s College hosted an engaging Fashion Portfolio Workshop titled “Create Fashion Portfolio using Manual and Digital Software” on 28th July 2025. The Department of Fashion Technology organized the workshop to provide students with practical, hands-on learning in modern design techniques.

Resource Person: Sri Karpaga Meera Natesan

Sri Karpaga Meera Natesan, Assistant Professor at PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, led the session. With her academic background and industry exposure, she brought real-world relevance to the training. Her approach was dynamic and tailored for aspiring fashion designers.

Objective of the Workshop

The main goal was to teach students how to create compelling portfolios. These portfolios are critical for showcasing design ideas, technical skills, and creative identity. Students were introduced to both manual sketching techniques and digital software tools used in the fashion industry.

Manual Portfolio Techniques

The session began with an introduction to portfolio fundamentals. Sri Karpaga Meera explained how to build fashion storyboards, design layouts, color palettes, and mood boards. Students practiced sketching garments, presenting collections, and arranging content visually.

She encouraged students to focus on storytelling, not just design. Each portfolio needed a clear concept, strong visuals, and thoughtful execution.

Hands-On Digital Portfolio Creation

In the second part of the workshop, students explored digital tools. They learned to use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CorelDRAW to digitize their portfolio elements. The trainer gave live demonstrations and offered practical tips on formatting, layering, and file optimization.

Students appreciated learning how to blend manual skills with digital techniques. Many had never used the software before, and this training gave them a strong foundation.

Interactive Learning Experience

The session wasn’t just lecture-based. It included Q&A rounds, one-on-one clarifications, and peer discussions. Students asked questions about portfolio presentation in job interviews and admissions. The trainer responded with detailed insights from her academic and industry experience.

This interactive format helped students feel more confident in applying what they learned.

Outcome and Student Response

Over 70 students from the Department of Fashion Technology participated in the workshop. They shared overwhelmingly positive feedback. Several mentioned they now understood how to structure a portfolio professionally.

The session also helped students recognize how technical and creative skills combine in the fashion world. The ability to express their ideas visually and digitally is now seen as a key career skill.

Appreciation and Conclusion

The Department of Fashion Technology sincerely thanked Sri Karpaga Meera Natesan for her inspiring session. She received a token of appreciation from the department. Students expressed their gratitude for her clear, engaging guidance.
